Ph.D. Associate Professor
Dr. Debbie McKenzie received her BSc degree from Simon Fraser University and her PhD in Medical Biochemistry from the University of Calgary. Following post-doctoral training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison with Dr. James Dahlberg, she joined the Veterinary Science/Animal Health and Biomedical Sciences department as a scientist. She has been researching prion diseases since 1988, focusing primarily on the etiology of infection. Her prion research interests include the role of prion protein genetics in disease resistance and susceptibility, the role of metals in pathology as well as inter and intra-species transmission.
